Covid data 4 Sept

Independent Sage’s 4 Sept weekly briefing provides a summary of covid trends. The present increase in the level of infection could indicate the virus is about to get out of control again, as the government encourages schools and workplaces to open up. The ‘Test and Trace’ system is not finding enough potentially infected contacts or ensuring they will be isolating. It will not keep the level of infection under control.

The strategy is to bring in local restrictions on households mixing, when daily new infections are typically over 30 per 100,000. Bolton, Blackburn, Bradford, Leicester, Kettering, Manchester, Oldham etc. have been affected, and others , such as Leeds are on a watch list.

Cases April-4Sept. Rising again
Positivity rate increased since July – half of increase in cases due to increase in infection
Test & Trace – 81% cases traced but only 65% provided one or more contact
